Crafting A Top-Quality Research Paper About Nursing

Sometime during your nursing studies, one of your professors is going to give you the dreaded assignment of writing a research paper. Don’t panic. All you need to do is follow the steps below and you will conquer the demon.

  1. Listen to your professor- The first thing you need to do is find out exactly what your instructor expects from this paper. Write down all of his instructions and make sure you know what format he wants the article in. It might be a good idea to talk to some former students and get the skinny on what the professor is looking for. The more you know about what he likes, the better off you will be when grading time comes.
  2. Start thinking about a topic- This is the most important step in writing your paper. Because you are a nursing student, it would be best to find a branch of nursing that you may be interested in. Get on the internet and start searching different areas of nursing. As you research, brainstorm and write down topics that interest you. It’s extremely important to write your paper on a nursing topic that you are passionate about. Narrow your choices down to 5 topics you really want to learn about.
  3. Become more intent on research. Look for information anywhere and everywhere. Your librarian may become your best friend during this process. As you continue your research, you may find out that your topic will jump out at you. It’s like your topic will appear though all the topics you are researching. Now you have your topic. Hopefully, it is something that really keeps you awake. You will be doing tons of research so you want it to be rewarding. Open your eyes and expand your horizons and think about other places besides the internet to find information. Nursing information can be found in many places other than the internet. Look to the hospitals, doctors, and other nurses for interviews or other types of information.
  4. Create an outline- You have tons of index cards that you have organized. You have an idea in your head as to how you want your paper to flow. Use those index cards and create an outline. Think about the outline as a roadmap that will guide you through your paper. Your outline will show all of your strong points.
  5. Write your rough draft- The tough work is done! Now use your outline to write your rough draft. Maybe ask some others to read it as well to make sure you are getting the points across the way you want.
  6. Proofread and write your final draft- Make sure all your grammar and spelling is perfect. Make sure the format is what the professor wanted. Finalize your paper and take a big breath. You should be proud of the work you did and be happy to hand your paper in to your professor.
